1. DROWNED

    Danila Tkachenko

For the "Drowned" project I ordered photographs of late Socialist Modernist architecture from local photographers. The resulting photographs were printed and rolled out on a rigid base, and then the architecture depicted in the photographs was cut out in individual fragments, which I mounted on the shoals of the Aral Sea. The architecture of Soviet modernism was an image of the future. Over time, the political utopias collapsed, leaving behind the architecture of a failed future and the ecological disaster of the Aral Sea
